How to clean, dry and iron bed linen

Importance of cleanliness

Bed linen is essential for sleeping well and in a healthy environment. Sheets, pillowcases and blankets can be a breeding ground for dust mites, germs and bacteria, so they should be washed and changed at least once a week, or at most twice a week.

Checking the label

Before throwing the linen in the washing machine, however, it is always necessary to check the fabric and label, because it may need special care and specific washing cycles.

Proper washing

Since they are very bulky, it is advisable to wash sheets and pillowcases by themselves by placing them in the washing machine in a fan-shaped pattern (and not rolled or folded excessively), so as to allow the water to enter each fold.

The recommended washing cycle temperature ranges from 40°C (for coloured sheets) to 60°C (for white sheets).

Gentle detergents

The choice of detergents is also important: mild detergents and fabric softeners are ideal for even the most sensitive skin. In addition, for extra sanitisation you can add a few drops of laundry sanitiser to the fabric softener at the end of the wash.

Drying and ironing

Once washed, it is a good idea to air-dry the laundry, so that it airs more and the fabric is less damaged than in a tumble-dryer cycle.

Finally, to remove any residual germs and mites, iron them with steam and store them in a dry and cool place.
